Tested & Approved: Powerful Paraben-free Skin Care for Busy Moms

The modern mother has more responsibilities than ever before and skincare should never be a chore.

Those few precious minutes where we reconnect with ourselves as we gaze into the mirror, feel renewed with each splash of water, and relax as we massage on moisturizer are acts of pampering our self-esteem.

Keeping our skin care routines simple yet effective is key because it makes the routines more practical and therefore, more likely for us to maintain even during those late nights and busy mornings.

Our skin care experts have tested, reviewed, and approved these clean, powerful products and created a simple yet comprehensive skin care regimen for busy mothers who deserve the best.

These products make great gifts as they are suitable for all skin types, safe for pregnant and nursing moms, and can be easily incorporated into anyone’s skin care routine.

Upgrade Your Cleansing Ritual

Rest those hard-working hands while you cleanse your face with the relaxing Foreo Luna, a relaxing and massaging face cleansing device.

The silicone bristles and T-Sonic pulsations efficiently deep clean pores and help thoroughly remove impurities and makeup.

By not having to use our hands, the Foreo Luna makes it easier to cleanse for longer as well.

We recommend the smaller, Foreo Luna Mini 2 ($119 available online only) as it fits easily in the palm of your hand and is very travel friendly.

The newer Foreo Luna Mini 3 is pricier and in my honest opinion, not worth it. Does anyone really need 12 different speeds?!

Double-cleansing every night might not be practical for busy moms and can cause skin sensitivity from over-cleansing. Pair the Foreo Luna Mini 2 with a hydrating yet powerful cleanser that removes makeup, oil, and impurities in one-step.

For sensitive and dry skin, we recommend the gentle, best-selling Soy Makeup Removing Face Wash by Fresh ($38); and for oily to acne-prone skin, Farmacy’s Whipped Greens Oil Free Cleanser ($28) is formulated with exfoliating papaya extract to help keep skin clear and smooth.

Swipe For Smoothness

As women, our skin is affected by our hormones. During different phases of our cycle, we may experience more dryness or oiliness than usual due to natural hormonal changes.

Toners can make an amazing difference in the radiance, smoothness, and clarity of your skin.

With daily use, our skin is better able to absorb moisturizer and keep breakouts at bay.

The regular, gentle exfoliation that comes with using a toner every day encourages skin cell turnover, the natural cycle where old skin cells are sloughed off to encourage new healthy skin growth.

Maintaining our skin cell turnover cycle is key to fighting both acne and wrinkles.

In our product review article "2021 Top 3 Hydrating Acne-Fighting Toners", we gathered 3 amazing toners with natural antibacterial ingredients, pore unclogging mild exfoliants, and oil-free hydrating ingredients.

For skin that is on the drier side, we recommend the Squalane + BHA Pore-Minimizing Toner.

The formula contains squalane, a moisturizing ingredient that has a similar profile to our skin's natural oil, sebum.

However, the texture is not oily at all and refreshingly hydrating.

For very oily skin that gets oily after a few hours and occasional cystic acne, we recommend the Balancing Force™ Oil Control Toner by Ole Henriksen.

It has a cleansing ability to sweep up any leftover residue from face cleansing with a variety of exfoliants to clear clogged pores.

Be sure to use cotton pads with the toners for best results and avoid cotton pads that leave any kind of lint residue.

These tiny lint particles can clog pores and lead to skin irritation and breakouts.

If you're feeling fancy, we love the ultra-silky Shiseido's Facial Cotton pads. However, these ultra-thin rayon toner pads by Korean skincare company Pyunkang Yul are very affordable and effective at not wasting any product.

The Daily Multi-tasking Moisturizer

Ampoules, essences, and serums, oh my!

This is where a skincare routine can get complicated and time consuming.

Instead, invest in a serum-infused moisturizer for both your day and night skincare routines. Most creams just moisturize but in high-end skincare, the luxurious creams really do pack a punch of rejuvenating ingredients.

Be sure to avoid parabens though; these potential hormone disrupting ingredient can be found in drugstore to designer skincare products.

From wrinkle-fighting and firming peptides plus a buffet of botanical extracts that help brighten the skin, the Forte Cream by Korean skincare company Cell Forte Skincare took 1st place against the famous Creme de La Mer in our 2022 Best Paraben-Free Wrinkle Creams For Hydrated Skin All Day.

Our skin moisture meter determined that the Forte Cream was able to immediately hydrate our skin the most.

Moreover, at the end of a long day, the Forte Cream was able to keep our skin moisturized best out of the 3 creams.

Surprsingly, the unique and lightweight gel-cream texture is perfectly balanced for very dry mature skin as well as oily skin types.

Sunscreens to Shield Against Aging

Sunscreen isn’t just for beach days, they are for every day. With summer around the corner and states starting to open back up, adding sunscreen to our daily morning skin care routine is a must. UVA and UVB rays from sun exposure cause surface level sunburns and dark spots as well as serious skin aging and damage beneath the skin.

To err on the side of caution, we recommend avoiding sunscreens with these 2 ingredients:

  • Avobenzone
  • Oxybenzone

Instead, look for broad spectrum, mineral sunscreens that offer at least SPF 30 with PA+++ (that’s 3 plus signs). While the SPF level refers to the protection against UVB rays, the PA and plus signs represent protection against UVA rays.

All three of these recommended sunscreens meet our standards. However, you may need to play the role of Goldilocks and give each a try to see which is the best fit for your skin. Although you can find all three at Sephora, we recommend buying each from their respective brand site to take advantage of new customer coupons.

For makeup lovers, Tatcha’s Silken Pore Perfecting Sunscreen provides SPF 35 PA+++ and helps to smooth the look of large pores and prepare the skin for foundation and/or concealer. According to Tatcha, the formula is non-comedogenic (won’t clog pores), non-irritating, non-sensitizing, dermatologist tested, and cruelty-free.

The $60 full size 2 fluid ounce tube is available at Sephora for $65, you can try out the $15 travel-sized tube (0.34 fluid ounce) from their site.

If you prefer a matte finish and you are concerned about the infamous white cast from applying sunscreen, Supergoop’s Mineral Sheerscreen provides SPF 30 PA+++ blends to a smooth finish without any white cast or chalkiness.

You can find the travel-sized 0.5 fluid ounce for just $17. If you do like this formula, get triple the size (1.5 fluid ounce) for only $38.

If you prefer a dewy, radiant look and are concerned with skin dryness, Biossance’s Squalane + Zinc Sheer Mineral Sunscreen can give you that healthy glow from head to toe. Although they do not offer a smaller travel-sized option, their site features a jumbo tube that is double the size of their original.

The full size tube is $30 for 1.7 fluid ounces, while the jumbo tube is just $42 for 3.4 fluid ounces.

Skin care products make great, practical gifts as we use them up on a daily basis. More importantly, the right skin care products keep our skin healthy, protected, and beautiful.

Our daily skin care routines are self-care rituals.

Our promise

Healthy is beautiful and beauty should never cost us our health. Let's face the truth: women are the beauty industry's most important customers but we're not getting the VIP treatment we deserve. Research shows that toxic chemicals present in many skincare products can interfere with our hormonal health. With the lack of regulation in the beauty industry it's up to us to call out these toxic chemicals in personal care products to keep these brands on their toes. So as women together we're taking a stand for fertility' sake.
